How to Meditate for Beginners

If you’ve ever felt the need to quiet the mind and find inner peace, you’re in the right place. Meditation isn’t just for yogis on mountain tops—it’s a simple and accessible practice that anyone can benefit from. Today, I’m going to show you how to start your meditation journey, even if you’ve never tried it before.

How to Meditate for Beginners, Meditation

Find a Quiet Spot.

First things first, find a cosy spot where you can relax without any distractions. This could be your bedroom, a quiet corner, your favourite park bench or even on your lunch break, you can use your car.

Get Comfy

Next, make yourself comfy by sitting down on a cushion, a chair, or even lie down on your back. Whatever feels best for you!

Take a Deep Breath

Close your eyes and take a big, deep breath in through your nose and feel your chest expand like a balloon. Then breathe out slowly through your mouth and let go of any tension.

Focus on Your Breath

Now, focus on your breath. Feel the air going in and out of your nose. Notice how it feels as your chest rises and falls.

Be Present in the Moment

As thoughts pop into your head (and they will!), simply notice them without getting caught up. Imagine your thoughts as fluffy clouds passing by in the sky and imagine them fading into the blue sky. This will allow you to gently bring your attention back to your breath.

Finish

When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes and take a moment to observe any sounds in the environment. Feel how your body is right now. Observe your thoughts and emotions.

Conclusion

There you have it, beginner meditator! You’re now on the path to finding your zen. Find a quiet spot, get comfy, and focus on your breath. Before you know it, you’ll feel calmer and more centred than ever. Give it a shot!
